There are a lot of reasons to love Winona, and Visit Winona wants to share them with the world. To help us, two new films — Girlfriends Getaways and Family Fun — have been added to the Visit Winona YouTube channel, and they are a delight to watch. The films come as the next pair in a series of short featurettes in which residents and visitors are asked the simple question – “Why do you love Winona?” Their answers are sprinkled into footage of some of Winona’s best-loved attractions, reminding those familiar with the city why they love it, and showing those who’ve never been here why they should come.
Visit Winona commissioned a survey to understand the awareness of and impressions of Winona according to travelers, and then it designed the project to fill gaps in knowledge and attract new visitors to the city. To create the films, Emmy-Award-winning filmmaker Chris Newberry has worked with Visit Winona over much of 2016 to capture the footage needed for such a massive undertaking. However, the project also features clips given to Visit Winona by a variety of local organizations to help round out the topics covered in each film.
The most recent videos released follow a pilot film project unveiled in May that features many of Winona’s abundant recreation and arts offerings. Set to be released in March are two additional films that feature history and architecture as well as dining and nightlife.
