Exploring Water through our Senses with Mary Lee Eischen
Excite your senses through art and movement! This class will begin by looking and discussing a piece of artwork from the MMAM collections. Mary Lee will guide participants to move their bodies for expression and for health using the Nia Technique. Nia is a movement that incorporates the martial arts, the dance arts, and the healing arts. All fitness abilities welcome. Wear clothing you can move easily in, and bring your favorite notebook and pencil. An optional yoga mat or towel may allow ease with floor exercise. This program is free, but space is limited. Since it's almost Valentine's Day, how about a lovers' challenge: bring along your favorite love song!
For much of the early history of modern art, Impressionism had been seen as frivolous and unstructured. In the 1950s, Impressionism's reputation was rehabilitated, as some of its qualities, for example the emphasis on the paint itself and the use of pure color, became visible in the work of Abstract Expressionists such as Jackson Pollock and Barnett Newman. This talk will trace the evolution of these qualities from Impressionism to Abstract Expressionism and beyond.
Guys and Dolls is a musical with music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows. It is based on "The Idyll of Miss Sarah Brown" and "Blood Pressure", two short stories by Damon Runyon.

Our feature program this weekend will be EarthQuest with presenter Steve Hoddy. In this Birds of Prey program you’ll be amazed to see the wingspan of one of the world’s largest birds, the Andean Condor. You’ll strain to hear a Eurasian Eagle Owl in flight and wonder at the Harris Hawk’s precision landings. Steve Hoddy is a wildlife educator and animal trainer who has worked with a variety of animals in TV and film.

Join author, photographer, and WSU professor emeritus Drake Hokanson as he guides us through an illustrated talk by looking at six very different photographs from several of his projects and uses each one to describe some aspect of the idea of place, for example how to "read" a place, the layered nature of place, and the varied view of a place depending on personal perspective.

Named after a New Zealand Fjordland, Doubtful Sound is the moniker,
Michael Thigpen, self-described folk-pop musician. Michael plays to
discover the meaning of folk music. During his sets he intensely
strums his resonator guitar and mandolin, with a strict philosophy of
giving 100 percent to his performance. He has written songs about
travel, life, love and sweaters, and has performed them as far away as
Canada, England, Scotland and Wales
Lincoln: The Constitution and the Civil War examines how President Lincoln used the Constitution to confront three intertwined crises of the Civil War - the secession of Southern states, slavery and wartime civil liberties.
The ballet Le Corsaire, loosely based on a poem by Lord Byron, follows Medora, a beautiful slave girl, and Conrad, a dashing pirate, as they journey through a tapestry of captive maidens, rich sultans, swashbuckling abductions, and dramatic rescues—all culminating in a happy ending. Originally choreographed by Marius Petipa to music by Adolfe Adam, Le Corsaire continues to delight audiences more than 150 years after its premiere.

The students will perform individually and in groups from 1:00 to 2:15. The "Blue Ox Jazz Babies" from Mankato, the "Turkey River All Stars" from Rochester and Winona's "Gate City Jazz Band" will provide Dixieland music all afternoon until 7:30 PM.
No admission fee will be charged. Food and beverages will be available. Parking is free. Indoor facilities will be available in case of rain.

Since winning the Silver Medal at the 1998 Tchaikovsky Competition and First Prize at the 2001 Naumberg Competition, Li-Wei Qin has established himself as one of the leading cellists of his generation. He is a frequent soloist with orchestras throughout Europe, Asia, and Australia, and is currently Head of Cello Studies at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music in Singapore. The Gate City Jazz Band will be playing Dixieland music from 6:00 to 8:00 p. m. on the last Sunday of every month, February 26 through October 28, 2012. There is no cover charge.
Lighthouses and Legends is drawn from the Burrichter/Kierlin Marine Art Collection, one of the finest collections of art inspired by water in the country. In the exhibition will be diverse historic and contemporary works featuring lighthouses, as well as stories that relate to seafaring life and legendary events. Artists represented include Edward Moran, William Frederick De Haas, and Canadian marine artist Jack Gray.
